Led by architect and Professor Tom Kovac and architectural curator, Fleur Watson, the project invites ideas for a new, sustainable blueprint for Maribor’s future evolution within a 100-year timescale. With over 65 projects submitted and counting, the collective visions offer a remarkable insight into the future of Europe.
Tom Kovac and Fleur Watson worked collaboratively with video artist Keith Deverell to produce an immersive and filmic sequence showcasing the project’s diverse range of responses contributed by studio leaders from around the world. The story of the formation is further described via a series of interview ‘grabs’ and key data statistics that reveals the extraordinary network of contributors that the project has instigated through its collaborative online platform.
A curated score also tells the story of the conceptual thinking behind the project. Slovenian architect Jonathan Podboršek’s interviews with residents are interwoven into the soundscape, giving ‘voice’ to the citizens of Maribor and the needs of their city. Judith’s Hamann’s haunting cello interprets the visions from image to sound within a compelling musical score. The 2112Ai 100YC project is produced in collaboration with RMIT University, EPEKA and Maribor 2012 European Capital of Culture.
