This program will discuss Indigenous and non-Indigenous knowledge of sound as it relates to place. Through a residency in the Kimberley region of Western Australian, Madelynne Cornish and Philip Samartzis experienced the devastating effects of the Turkey Creek flood on the remote Indigenous community of Warmun. Both artists made audio recordings and developed particular techniques to capture their experiences, and they worked closely with the local communities there. But what about communities here in our urban context and what can we learn about the role of sound from the Aboriginal experience of place in Melbourne?
