PING PONG: Colombia Australia Cultural Connections
RMIT University, through the Design Research Institute and the Art, Cities and Transformation research group are delighted to be partnering with the Colombian Foreign Ministry and Multicultural Arts Victoria to present the cultural exchange project Ping Pong. The project focuses on two artists, Greg Creek and Jorge Julián Aristizábal who will engage in an exchange of ten randomly selected words, from which diverse drawing processes are enacted. The final works, forty in total, will be presented in Melbourne at the Design Hub. The inherent ‘to-ing and fro-ing’ of ideas is the basis of the Ping Pong title, and will inform a range of the project outcomes.
Through the utilisation of both contemporary and traditional technologies the Ping Pong project works to deepen cultural knowledge between and about the countries of Australia and Colombia. Exhibition curator Damian Smith and Trinidad Estay from Multicultural Arts Victoria has worked to develop an installation of works by Jorge Julián Aristizábal and Greg Creek, as well as a conference of Australian-based Colombian artists, many of who are students and alumni of RMIT University.
