Internships & Volunteers


Become a Volunteer at RMIT Design Hub. Volunteers play an important role at the Design Hub. Volunteers are the public face of our building and assist with the day-to-day running of our public spaces. Volunteers at the Design Hub will gain valuable skills, develop new networks and gain new knowledge into a broad range of design fields.


  • Greet visitors and provide directions
  • Provide visitors with information about the Design Hub and specific exhibitions and programs
  • Assist with building and exhibition tours
  • Gallery sitting and security
  • Maintenance of the presentation of public spaces
  • General event operations support (some out of hours)
  • Assist with exhibition installations and deinstallation
  • Administrative duties as required


Design Hub requires availability of one 11am-6pm shift per fortnight. Design Hub public hours are Monday - Friday, 11am - 6pm.

The internship program at Design Hub provides professional development and hands-on training in a dynamic creative environment. There are a number of internships offered each year in the following areas: community development, curatorial and production and administration. Internships at Design Hub are unpaid.

Internships are for 3 months cycles and require a minimum of two full days of work per week, with a fixed schedule to be determined on appointment. Interns must be eighteen years of age or older.

Community Development
Design Hub is committed to developing critical audiences around its activities. In this area interns will be involved in all areas of audience development including web communications, social media, email communications, general promotional material and community outreach.


In this area interns will be introduced to curatorial and production practices included researching and organizing exhibitions and programs, management of design works, installation, production of signage and texts, timelines, and general event coordination.


Interns will be introduced to day-to-day administrative functions associated with running a large design space. In this area interns will assist with grant writing and partnership development.
